Interested
in drum lessons? Have you always wanted to play percussion? Do you play in school band
or orchestra and want to take private instruction on your instrument? Do you have a
band student who deserves, or is thinking about taking lessons? WELCOME to Gus' Drum Pad, your complete percussion studio. I have tried very hard to make "The
Drum Pad" the very finest, most well equipped percussion studio in the Hartford area. I feel I have succeeded in doing
so, and I invite you to come take a look for yourself. The studio includes virtually every percussion instrument a student
would encounter in school, college, or the professional world.
I
have all the instruments set up and available for your use. Many are vintage (some extremely rare, few of a kind, and very
unique) well maintained classics, while others are contemporary to stay "in tune" with today's musical demands.
All instruments are available for you or your child during our lesson times. The studio prides itself on having the most up
to date resources for you to enjoy; from a complete sound system for "realistic play-alongs", as well as the "beatnik
rhythmic analyzer", to the interactive student center on the web site. The studio is arranged with mirrors so that the
student can observe the correct playing posture, and techniques. So that both student & teacher can work together, the
studio has 2 drum-sets always set up, with the ability to record and video your lessons.
Also in the studio are: 4 pedal timpani, mallet instruments which include: vibes, xylophone, bells,
2 marimbas (including a 5 octave DeMorrow) chimes,
and crotales. For concert band or orchestra music, we have concert snare drum, bass drum & hand cymbals, concert
toms, and "toys" (accessories like
triangle, tambourine, wood blocks, temple blocks, and cow bells) in addition to "World
Percussion" instruments (tabla, djembe, congas, bongos, timbales, and gongs) so
that no matter what your child may encounter in school, we are allowed the opportunity to work on any and all of your child's
music with the proper instruments, and professional techniques, as well as the chance to work on contemporary classical percussion
literature. For marching band practice, the studio has a field drum, and tenors.
In the studio, I maintain a LARGE music library, featuring over
1800 print and video titles (with an in-studio audio-visual center for watching instructional dvds, or tapes), which include
lending privileges for students. Having such a vast library allows us the opportunity to instantly pick challenging pieces
for your child to work on, sight read, and prepare for performance. Speaking of performances, the studio hosts student recitals throughout the year. I believe that recital performances are very important to the
development of any musician, and I strongly encourage all my students to participate in our recitals. Percussion Ensembles are also offered, allowing even more performance
opportunities for students.
All lessons are individually
geared towards the students goals & learning patterns. I am very proud to say that my students continually place in Connecticut
regional & all state festivals.
