KELLYANN CHESTER-OUELLETTE Cum Laude, Bachelor of Science/Education Degree in Music Education, Central
Connecticut State University, 1989.
Mrs. Chester-Ouellette attended the New
England Conservatory Preparatory School, and Ithaca College. She studied
both Classical and Jazz music on flute, piccolo, alto and soprano saxophones, and clarinet. She studied flute with Lauren
Weiss of New York City, Nina Barwell of the Boston area, Georgetta Maiolo of Ithaca College, Sharon Davis, Retired Music Department
Head and Flute Professor at Central Connecticut State University, and Jonathan Baumgarten, visiting professor at C.C.S.U.
Some of the several master classes attended and performed by Mrs. Ouellette include those presented by Samuel Baron, Paula
Robison, Julius Baker, Thomas Nyfinger, Carol Wincenc, and Jeanne Baxtresser. In addition to playing flute and piccolo,
Mrs. Ouellette also plays and teaches alto saxophone, clarinet, and recorder. She has played the saxophone since 1980 studying
with Kenneth Nigro at Central Connecticut State University and has played clarinet since 1985 after studying with Dr. Schmidt
at Ithaca College. She has performed as a multiple reed player with many pit orchestras associated with local theater companies
such as The Hartford Children's Theater, The Act II Theater in New Haven,CT, The Beckley Dinner Theater in Newington,CT, The
Starlite Playhouse & Cabaret in East Hartford, CT, and The Connecticut Repertory Theater in association with the University
of Connecticut in Storrs.
Kellyann has been a member of the Music Educators National
Conference and the Connecticut Music Educators Assoc. since 1996 and a member of the Greater
Boston Flute Assoc. since 1993. Since college, she held the position of Director of the Gifted and Talented Flute Ensemble
at New Britain High School for 2 years, and founded and directed the East-of-the-River Flute Ensemble and Summer Ensembles
Program. She taught Instrumental Music at St. Bernard's Parochial School in Rockville for 1 year and has been teaching privately
in the Vernon, Manchester, and East Hartford areas since 1990. Several of her students have held principal positions in the
CT Eastern Regional and All-State Music Festivals at both the High School and Jr. High levels. She has also sent students
to the Greater Boston Flute Associations Solo and Ensemble Festival in which all of her students have received Gold Ratings.
Mrs.
Ouellette founded The Flute Institute and Other Woodwinds in 1997 and has been Owner and Director of Wedding Instrumentals
based in Western Massachusetts since 1996. She also studied voice for 1 year with Sherry Veal in Glastonbury and 1 year with
Julie Blake in Springfield, MA. Also in 1996, Kellyann became a Certified Adjudicator of the CT. Regional and All-State Festival
Auditions at the Jr. High and High School Levels. She has studied guitar with Mark Cecchini and is currently songwriting.
She also has performed in a country duo called Country Somethin, singing music from the Traditional and Alternative Country,
Oldies, and Pop Music genre.
Kellyann presented a Jazz Improvisation Class at the October 29th, 2007 Greater
Boston Flute Association Flute Fair and also performed that evening with the band Reverse Curve on their Jazz Cabaret
Program.
She loves to teach students of all ages in all styles of music.
